What is the best time of year to visit Chile?

Due to its immense length, Chile’s best time to visit varies by region. For Santiago, the Central Valley, and Patagonia, the summer months (December to February) are ideal, offering long days and pleasant weather. For the Atacama Desert, a year-round destination, the shoulder seasons of September-November and March-May are excellent, with mild temperatures.

The official currency is the Chilean Peso (CLP). While U.S. dollars may be accepted in some larger hotels, it’s essential to have pesos for most transactions. Credit cards are widely used in cities, but you will need cash for local markets and small vendors.

For long distances, domestic flights are the most practical way to travel. Chile has an excellent long-distance bus network that is comfortable, affordable, and connects most major cities and towns. Within cities, taxis and rideshare apps are widely available.
