Liechtenstein is part of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the Schengen Area. For U.S. citizens, a visa is not required for tourist stays of up to 90 days. You must, however, enter through a Schengen Area country, so you will need to meet the visa requirements for the country you are transiting through. Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned date of departure from the Schengen area.

A rental car is not necessary if you plan to stay in the main towns, as public transportation is excellent and free. However, a car provides the freedom to explore the beautiful mountain landscapes, reach hiking trails, and visit smaller, more remote villages at your own pace.
The official currency of Liechtenstein is the Swiss Franc (CHF). While credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, and shops, it’s a good idea to carry some cash for smaller purchases or for businesses in more rural areas. Euros may be accepted in some places, but change is often given in Swiss Francs at an unfavorable exchange rate.
Tipping is not a strict cultural requirement, but it is appreciated for good service. A service charge is often included in the bill. If not, a tip of 5-10% is customary. It’s common to round up the bill or give a specific amount.
